We came, we saw and we spent far too much money ! What bargains were to behold,
with Micks caravan going home full to the brim with new panels and spares for
the club.
The weather started out looking a bit dodgy but by midday on Saturday the sun
shone down upon the array of Mantas. The turnout was really good, with well
over 100 cars on the club stand. For most of Saturday there was plenty to see
and do with loads of Autobumble stands and 40 or so other clubs in attendance.
The Midlands area was really well represented with all of the regulars turning
up and staying for the duration, apart from me who took the commuting option in
the new V6 A series ! (I just wanted to clock up some miles in the beast!)
Saturday ended up with the customary BBQ and burnt food, bad stomachs and
beers.
Sunday morning, we awoke to beautiful sunshine and no flags on the club stand.
Some thieving gipsy had taken a liking to the Opel logos and liberated them. We
know who you are….(not a member of our club we hasten to add). Leisurely bacon
butties were scoffed and the polishing began for the concours. After much
mincing and voting the decisions were made and the papers posted. A last blast
around the autojumble (and that was just in Micks trousers), we got back to the
stand to see what was happening. One of our local members, Louisa Talbot was in
the process of buying a really tidy 1.8 Astro silver Hatch. Charlie Middleton
has already got his eye on Louisa's old car and a deal was struck. Shame
Charlie left soon after with his new purchase still full of Louisa's belongings
! Blo**dy Northerners…..if its not bolted, down then off they go !!
The Concours went well for the Midlands, with me Winning the modified A Series
class . Jackie got 2nd with her modified C Hatch and Paul got 2nd with his
i200. Carolines got toss all with her new Nova but never mind eh ??(It was the
club taxi for the weekend with all the regalia piled high in the back).
It was great to see a lot of old faces again this year. Paul (S)Crotty
arrived…..my lords, Mac and Sara turned up with Kinno and Sandra. Chris Farley
arrived in his lovely Opel GT. So, on the whole this made things even more
enjoyable until the caravan episode, EH TRUDY ! She obviously thought that Mick
needed extra ventilation, (who can argue with that), and kindly removed the
front window….Ooops.
All things considered, an excellent weekend. Make a date for next year
Many thanks to the VBOA, everybody who helped out and all who turned up and
made the weekend such a success.
